National policy dialogue – SchoolFood4Change: integrating the Whole Food school approach

On Wednesday, May 17, Compraverde 2023 is scheduled to host a working table to promote policies for the introduction of a comprehensive approach to healthy and sustainable food in schools entitled National policy dialogue – School Food for Change: integrating the Whole Food School Approach. The main objective of the meeting is to inform national stakeholders about the project and the innovative methodology developed to integrate innovative procurements, healthy and wholesome diets with a comprehensive and integrated approach to school food education. This methodology is currently being tested in 16 cities and regions, and by 2026 will reach about 600,000 students in 3,000 schools in 12 European countries. The pilot cities in Italy are Milan and Nuoro, and several cities have already applied to replicate the methodology and will participate in the meeting.

With the participation of Buy Better Food Campaign and moderation by Sabina Nicolella Fondazione Ecosistemi, the meeting will feature Alessandra Mascioli – Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Elena Alonzo – TaSiN Ministry of Health, Annalisa D’Onorio – Slow Food Italy, Fabio Bonanno – Head of Agriculture and Food Policy, Municipality of Rome, Vitandrea Marzano – Head of Food Policy, Municipality of Bari, Fausta Moroni – Municipality of Nuoro, Sara Porru – Municipality of Nuoro, Tiziana Pia – Food Policy Coordination Piedmont Region, Cristina Sossan – Food Policy Area, Municipality of Milan, Thais Palermo Buti – Fondazione Ecosistemi.

The Compraverde Buygreen Award is back for 2025 with an important new feature: for the first time, applications will be open to European organisations. The calls for application are available online and it will be possible to participate until 24 April 2025. The award recognises best practices in Green Public Procurement (GPP) across key sectors such as catering, culture, sports, healthcare, and sustainable building, promoting responsible purchasing models. Winners will be announced at the 19th Compraverde Buygreen Forum on 14-15 May 2025 in Rome.
